The Story of The Peppermint Apes
Formed September 2008
This band from Essex, in South East England, delivers a unique brand of pop rock
The main song writer Ryan Stanton draws a heavy influence from the likes of Keane, The Kooks, Scouting for girls, Muse, The Beatles,, Kevin Montgomery and The Feeling!
The band have had an amazing ride! Highlights include t v on Fox 7 Austin Texas, and Fearless t v, in New York!
They have played the world famous Americana festival two years running, and the I P O international pop overthrow festival four times! Twice at The Cavern, Liverpool, once in New York and once in London.
The band have built up a loyal fan base not only the UK, but also in Belgium and France
The Peppermint Apes were approached by independent film maker Sadie Kaye in 2010 to provide three songs for her fantastic documentary "SAILING MISS SADIE"
On the back of this success Sadie asked Ryan to write a song for her film "TUCKERS LUCK" And the guys were honoured to be filmed with Sadie performing the track in their very own studios.
The track, "BE MY FRIEND" has been put forward with possible inclusion for the "ROCK BAND" electronic game for all console's
They continue to have radio play the world over! In April 2010 the guys were asked to perform unplugged for Janice Long on BBC radio 2
The year started with the normal round of band nights and gigs, and the recording of music videos Hard To Love You and Be My Friend, both at Penkat Studios in Milton Keynes.
One of the most memorable gigs from the early part of the year was our charity night at The Bull, Basildon in aid of SCOPE which was very well attended and we raised a fair amount of money for this worthwhile cause
We played, once again on the main stage of The Americana festival in Nottingham, UK in July
We recorded and released a new 4 track EP in November, self titled, with 2 brand new tracks and 2 tracks that have been revisited from our original album, Against The Wall. The EP received acclaim from industry professionals and the public alike, being played on BBC Radio Essex, several radio stations in Northern Ireland and even in Nashville and New York!
In December we completed our new music videos, Secrets Out, and All She Needs, and again have received good feedback for the production on Secrets Out
December proved to be quite a busy month as we flew to Northern Ireland to appear on TV with Sean Green and his Irish Connection Show. On the TV show we launched our two music videos SECRETS OUT and ALL SHE NEEDS. The new EP was also being played on Sean’s radio shows TCR and CMR Nashville, and we were honoured to win a ’listeners poll’ award from The Irish Connection which was made during our gig at Le Grain de Folie, in Fauquemburges, France where we went to play our now annual Christmas Party gig. Playing to a packed venue (you seriously could not have fitted anyone else in!) we also gave an interview to the local newspaper! The gig was a total blast!
We entered in the UK Live & Unsigned competition, and succeeded in beating over 20 000 other acts to get through to the finals at the 02 London on July 14th 2012.
At the Regional Finals we also won the award for BEST ORIGINAL SONG “POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL” (written by Ryan Stanton), which we were absolutely thrilled with. This song from the album released in 2010 was part of our showcase and can be seen on YouTube
On the back of this we were asked to perform at OSFEST, CAZFEST, PETTS WOODSTOCK & BROWNSTOCK for 2012, appearing on the same stage as Dappy, Loicke Essien, Scouting for Girls, SClub, The Hooziers etc., we also headlined at a gig in Northern France in July and despite the wet weather had an amazing time appearing with other English and French bands.
Once again we were asked to write the music, this time to the lyrics written by Sadie Kaye, for her new TV comedy show, Miss Adventure. Subsequently this song was signed by 4 Real Records for worldwide publishing and also the original song by Ryan Stanton, MIRACLE TO ME to be re-mastered and released under the same label.
Early in 2014 it was decided that it was time for the band to record some new original songs and to film some new YouTube videos.
The Miley Cyrus song, Adore You, was covered by the band and we made a video which has now scored over 21,000 hits on YouTube
We recorded a promotional album of our best cover and original songs for distribution to the industry and it received great feedback, encouraging us to write and record some new songs.
The new album is almost done (Nov 2014) and will be available shortly
We returned in the summer of 2014 to play at our favourite French venue, Le Grain de Folie followed by headlining the local festival in the town square the following day, to great approval! Other festival slots included a Beer and Cider festival in Essex and the now customary slot at the Petts WoodStock Festival, which is always a blast!
We said goodbye to a friend of ours, a brave young man called Reece Hawley, who had a long fight with terminal brain cancer. The band decided that we would re-release MIRACLE TO ME and dedicate it to Reece with all proceeds going to the charity set up in his honour. We would love it if you could download the single - the link is on the homepage.
With plans for a tour and more festival slots in the New Year the band is looking forward to the future.
